At Brilliant Labs, we believe that creativity knows no bounds. This year’s Novel Storytelling Innovation Challenge invites students and educators to think outside the box and experiment with new ways of telling stories using the fusion of technology and traditional craftsmanship. Whether you're a seasoned storyteller or exploring this for the first time, the challenge encourages innovative projects that blend projection mapping, laser-cut backgrounds, circuits, and electronic quilts into interactive and immersive narratives.

This challenge empowers students to push the boundaries of creativity, design, and storytelling, blending multiple disciplines to create stories that are not only visually stimulating but also engage audiences in a multi-sensory experience. From exploring rich cultural histories to designing futuristic narratives, this challenge will inspire students to become global change-makers.

Be inspired and get ready to turn your ideas into a reality that inspires others!

Let’s Explore Novel Storytelling

What do we mean by "Novel Storytelling"? It’s about breaking the mold of traditional storytelling by integrating the latest STEAM technologies with art and craftsmanship. This challenge allows students to:

  • Use projection mapping to bring their stories to life on various surfaces.
  • Incorporate laser-cut sample backgrounds, circuits, and interactive elements that invite the audience to participate.
  • Design electronic quilts or other forms of visual art that tell stories through light, movement, and texture.

This challenge encourages students to not only tell stories but to create immersive experiences that reflect on both historical and futuristic themes. It’s about giving students the tools to foster collaboration between diverse fields and to think about storytelling as a way to make meaningful connections and impact.
